“I feel so strongly that successful people in this world, whether you come from the automobile industry like I did or if you come from the medical professions or education, that you owe something to the community and the industries that you served and that made you successful in life.”
— Dennis Pawley

Oakland University would like to extend our gratitude to those who have generously invested in our students. We like to think of scholarship support as an “investment” because there is no doubt that we will see worthwhile returns by funding scholarships for our most deserving students.
Many who have enjoyed successes in life can attribute at least part of their good fortune to the investments others once made in them. Our donors pay those investments forward through support of scholarships. By funding scholarships, you are enhancing quality of life. You are forging paths that others will follow to realize their own successes.

Endowment gifts provide a permanent investment in Oakland’s future by ensuring a continuous source of funding. The principal, which can be a one-time gift or made over a period of years, is invested and grows over time. A portion of the income on that investment is spent each year in support of the donor’s stated philanthropic goals. Although state appropriations, tuition levels, and fundraising revenue may fluctuate, the financial stability afforded by endowed funds aids in strategic planning and program expansion.
With the exception of endowed scholarships, endowment opportunities begin at $25,000 and can support any area of the university that inspires your passion, including colleges, schools, academic departments and deanships. Donors who create endowments may name them for themselves or for others whom they wish to honor or memorialize by establishing a permanent legacy in support of educational excellence.

Buildings, classrooms, lounges and other campus spaces are important components of providing students with a positive experience at OU. Most buildings on campus bear the name of an individual, organization, or family who chose to enhance OU’s campus, names like Pawley Hall, Pryale House, the Graham Health Center, and most recently, the Elliott Tower, that become part of daily campus life for students and faculty.
As Oakland’s campus continues to grow, there are numerous opportunities for donors to name classrooms, laboratories, and buildings. Naming a building or space is a visual and tangible commitment to the future of Oakland University. Generations of students will learn, grow, and connect with each other in the campus spaces made possible by our most generous donors.
